The BRiGHT Parade, a human- and electric-powered extravaganza, will be part of Ducks Downtown festivities
A new flock of Ducks is coming to the University of Oregon, and you can welcome them to Eugene during a big bash downtown.
As part of the UO’s Week of Welcome for incoming first-year and transfer students, the university and community will converge Sept. 26 for Ducks Downtown. The first-ever full‑day celebration will introduce students, their families, university employees and Eugene residents to everything downtown offers, including transportation options that make it easy to get there and explore.
“Ducks Downtown is this city’s way to welcome new students and their families to our community and bring fans, faculty and community members together for a day to be immersed in Eugene’s vibrant downtown culture and Ducks pride,” said Michael Luna, associate director for enrollment partnerships and engagement in Student Orientation Programs. “We’re grateful for the generous efforts of the city of Eugene and our local partners for their excitement and energy in welcoming new Ducks to our community.”
From views along the Willamette River to tasting great food, shopping at locally owned stores and catching live music and art, there’s something for every Duck to explore and experience.
The day will feature Taste of TrackTown — a walkable food and beverage tour featuring $5 specials from local businesses. Showcase attractions also include the Lane County Farmers Market, Saturday Market and the BRiGHT Parade, a one-of-a-kind, human- and electric-powered procession.

- the UO Art Cart.
- vintage clothing pop-up market.
- Oregon Ducks football watch party at the Graduate by Hilton Eugene.
- events at 5th Street Public Market, Downtown Athletic Club, Hult Center and the Lane Transit District (LTD) Eugene Station.
“We want new students and their families — and all students, really — to learn that it’s easy to get to downtown and there’s lots to do and see,” said Karen Hyatt, director of community relations in Government and Community Relations.
The event is part of an effort by the university to work with city and business partners to improve the vibrancy and future of downtown Eugene.
Ducks Downtown is supported by the UO, LTD, Cascadia Mobility, Saturday Market, Lane County Farmers Market, Downtown Eugene Merchants, Summit Bank, Eugene BRiGHT Parade, city of Eugene and Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce.
