Someone once told me if your job doesn’t give you goosebumps, you probably shouldn’t be doing it. And this industry and all of my internships have definitely always given me goosebumps. Whether it’s after the 100th volleyball game or basketball game, I am just so excited. I get butterflies in my stomach and goosebumps. I love it.
The last two years I’ve worked as a marketing intern for University of Oregon athletics. Marketing interns runs promotions for all the Ducks sports teams. It’s one of the great things about being a business major concentrating in sports business at the UO: there is a fantastic connection to the UO sports teams and amazing opportunities.
Last year, I was in charge of the game-day presentation for women’s basketball. This year, I was in charge of men’s basketball, which is pretty exciting.
I plan out the entire game from the moment the doors open until everyone’s out. I write the script that spells out what happens during each time-out. On game day, I’m at the officials’ table with two headsets, communicating with the band, the audio-video crew, the people running houselights, and my group of interns who are running promotions out on the court. It’s pretty busy, but it’s a lot of fun. I love it. I love the pressure too. You get such a big adrenaline rush. It’s really exciting.
After graduating, I would like to get into event management, specifically in the world of sports and entertainment.
The business school here is just unbelievable, with so many incredible resources for students to take advantage of. No matter what industry you’re going into, you’re taken care of.
You can have no idea what you want to do, come here, find what you want to do, and there will be a village behind you to help get you there.
