Faculty members, staff and students are invited to attend a virtual town hall meeting at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, to discuss the future of application service management at the University Oregon. Registration is required.

Jessie Minton, vice provost for Information Services and chief information officer, will present the recommendations of the enterprise university applications project, which recently completed an assessment of campus software as part of Transform IT, the UO's information technology restructuring process.

Many departments, schools and colleges currently provide similar software applications and services to the UO community, as detailed in several prior assessments. For example, a 2018 report for Transform IT found more than a dozen instances of software performing functions related to customer relationship management, each instance helping one or more departments manage relationships with their own constituents.

The latest project team's final recommendations report outlines recommended approaches to changing the purchase, development, management and support of software applications to save university resources and improve services. An executive summary is also available.

At the virtual town hall, Minton will share her recommendations for further analysis and implementation of those changes on a category-by-category basis, which may involve the reorganization of IT staff who support applications in some categories.

If time permits, Minton will also field questions about Transform IT's ongoing user support implementation project. Staffing transitions into the new user support services team in Information Services began in April and will continue throughout 2020.
