McArthur “Mac” Court, now affectionately known as “EMU South,” is kicking off spring term with an open house Thursday, April 3, from 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event is open to the campus and Eugene community.
The event will include games and contests, entertainment, a visit from the Oregon Duck and a live sportscast with KWVA Radio. Attendees can also check out the spaces being used by student organizations and EMU departments during the renovation and expansion project.

The EMU’s first phase of renovation began late last year with the relocation of student groups to the ground level of the EMU near “The Buzz” coffeehouse, closure of the EMU computer lab and relocation of the Outdoor Program to “The Barn” at 18th Avenue and University Street.
This led to the project's second phase, which moved much of the student union's activity to the EMU South spaces at Mac Court – where the temporary tenants and visitors have amenities including lounge areas, a café and a new meditation room.
To meet the goal of keeping portions of the EMU facility open throughout construction, movers worked from finals week through spring break to open EMU South on March 31.
The EMU renovation project will create new student collaboration spaces and reinvent the university’s student union for its next generation of students, with approximately 80,000 square feet of new space and 134,000 square feet of renovated space.
