The Division of Undergraduate Studies is hosting a spring event designed to launch the UO’s effort to redesign its core curriculum.
The event, “Dear X: Letters from the Classroom — Reimagining Undergraduate Education Through Theatre and Dialogue,” will be held April 18 from 4-6 p.m. in Global Scholars Hall.
Open to all members of the university community — faculty, staff and students — the interactive event will include a performance by the Transforming Education by Design team of actual letters from UO students and faculty.
“We’re aiming to enliven discussion and exploration,” said Lisa Freinkel, vice provost and dean for undergraduate studies. “Our archive of letters reveals some surprises, some provocations for growth and change. Where are we getting it right? Where are we, as a campus, missing the educational mark?”
Led by Freinkel and Ron Bramhall, associate vice provost for academic excellence, the Transforming Education by Design team includes faculty, students and staff working to reach the university’s highest aspirations for undergraduate education.
A video available online describes the creative approaches to convening a conversation about education. Anyone interested in attending the “Dear X” event can reserve a spot by visiting the Making Tracks website.
Additional information about the project is available on the Teaching and Learning Center blog.
