Anyone who has worked at the University of Oregon knows it is a complex organization. Thousands of employees work in classrooms, labs, offices, libraries and on our grounds, performing widely varied work in support of our academic mission. And our multi-layered, policy-driven structure and processes can be difficult to understand and navigate, especially during challenging times.
A new workshop series called “How the University Works” aims to make things a bit clearer. Hosted by the Office of the Provost and the Office of Human Resources, the workshops are designed to help faculty and staff better understand how the university operates and to break down silos and strengthen connections across campus.
University leaders will share insights and lead discussions on topics ranging from budget and finance to student success. Each session will have 30 minutes of presentation followed by 20 minutes for discussion and Q&A.
“The goal is to help folks understand areas of the university that might feel like a black box,” said Sierra Dawson, associate vice provost for faculty and leadership development. “We hope the workshops and discussions lead to less energy spent pointing fingers and more energy spent getting curious, building collaborations and solving our biggest challenges together.”
More information is available on the Office of the Provost website.
