The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art is inviting students and community members to hit the sidewalks on the Memorial Quad for the fourth annual Chalk It Up art event.
Chalk It Up encourages people to leave their mark with chalk drawings and artwork on the sidewalks of the quad outside the museum. The event happens Thursday, May 15, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
“We are excited to host yet another year of this event,” said Debbie Williamson-Smith, the museum’s communication manager. “I love seeing the campus community come together and color the Memorial Quad with artwork while enjoying Eugene’s spring sunshine.”
The Duck Store will donate chalk for campus sidewalk art. The event is a way of encouraging students to sign up for the museum’s free student membership.
Last year’s event brought in more than 150 new student members. Students who sign up for a membership automatically will be entered into a raffle featuring prizes donated by Dutch Bros. Coffee, Holy Cow and Yogurt Extreme.
“This year’s wonderful raffle prizes will provide a little more incentive for students,” said Williamson-Smith. “They can learn about the museum, sign up for membership and create original artwork on the sidewalks of campus.”
The membership program offers discounts to the museum café and store, information about exhibitions, notices about upcoming events and programs and a free one-year membership to the museum after graduation.
