Leaders can either light up a room or drain its energy. A program that will be offered at the UO next month will help people develop the skills to be the first of those rather than the second.

The sixth annual Officers of Administration Leadership Forum will explore “The Multiplier Effect” in two half-day sessions April 9 in the Giustina Ballroom of the Ford Alumni Center. Registration is required and the sessions are expected to fill quickly; register for the morning session from 8:30 a.m. to noon or the afternoon session from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The forum will help people become “multipliers,” leaders “who use their intelligence to amplify the knowledge and capabilities of the people around them. When these leaders walk into a room, light bulbs go off over people's heads, ideas flow and problems get solved.”

It will also help leaders avoid becoming “diminishers,” leaders who “intentionally or unintentionally, tend to dismiss others’ ideas, minimally utilize available talent and sap energy and commitment in the workplace.”

The workshops will be led by Rob DeLange, a principal consultant at Career Climb Consulting and master practitioner at the Wiseman Group. DeLange has 15 years of experience building corporate learning centers and training programs at global technology companies and has worked extensively with nonprofit organizations.
