The University of Oregon's email consolidation effort has entered its final phase.
The remaining 800 accounts on the older Webmail system are slated to switch to the newer UOmail system by the end of October. That includes retirees and about 375 departmental role accounts.
UO faculty, staff and students already use UOmail, as do most role accounts.
A small number of Webmail-based accounts were moved to UOmail in late June and early July to prevent technical complications from the Microsoft license transition for certain accounts in mid-July.
The remaining Webmail accounts will be assigned transition dates in August, September or October. Information Services will notify users by email in advance.
"Our team has designed a clever new way to move people's old messages from Webmail to UOmail, so we hope these last transitions will be really smooth." said Melody Riley, associate chief information officer for enterprise solutions.
Information Services resumed work on the email consolidation after pausing for nearly two years. Staff still expect to complete the effort only one year later than previously announced.
"Last year we ran into staffing constraints just as we were hitting peak complexity with the Teams calling rollout," Riley said. "To best serve our team and the UO community, we chose to postpone the last phase of this important project until now."
The Information Services website provides more information about the email consolidation project.
Anyone who needs help with UOmail can submit a ticket through the email and calendar help webpage in the UO Service Portal, or contact the IT staff who support their unit or the Technology Service Desk.
