UO Libraries offers streaming movies to replace FilmStruck

For cinema fans worried about where they'll get their film fix after the movie streaming site FilmStruck shuts down Nov. 30, UO Libraries has good news.

All UO students, faculty members and staff members get free, unlimited access to a pair of streaming video services — Kanopy and DocuSeek2 — through library licenses. The services are available from computers anywhere on campus or by logging in with a Duck ID to view the content off campus. Thousands of films are already available and new titles are added each month.

The services will also be useful to instructors interested in screening topical documentaries in the classroom and fans of foreign films who can't find enough options on Netflix and Hulu.

Kanopy offers access to award-winning theatrical features, documentaries and training films, including an extensive selection from the Criterion Collection, PBS, HBO Documentary Films and New York Times' critics picks. Docuseek2 highlights critically accalimed documentary and social issues films and videos, including offerings from Bullfrog Films, Icarus Films and the National Film Board of Canada.

These streaming services provide a range of content on subjects that span the curriculum and make it easy to watch, share, discuss and engage with films across campus. For instructors, the services also provide assurance that the material can be screened for classes without violating intellectual property laws. They include features that allow users to share films, create clips or teaching playlists and embed them into Canvas.
