Ellen is having a bad hair moment. So goes the plot line from an episode of “The Ellen Show,” the 2002 sitcom starring comedian and talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres. The episode, entitled “Vanity Hair,” centers around Ellen feeling compelled to get a new hairstyle because she’s going to be featured in Vanity Fair magazine.
Nine UO School of Journalism and Communication students traveled to Vienna this spring, hoping their professor and Billy Joel knew something they didn’t. They quickly discovered that SOJC Professor Peter Laufer and Billy Joel were correct: Vienna was amazing.
The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art is presenting a photographic exhibit of Russian Orthodox cathedrals and churches from the 11th to the 20th centuries in the McKenzie Gallery. The photographs, which will be on view through Aug. 11, the were taken during research trips by Professor Emeritus A. Dean McKenzie, who retired in 1988 from the University of Oregon’s Department of Art History. McKenzie will lecture on 2,000 years of Russian Orthodox Church architecture during an event at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, at the museum.
David Woken has been hired by UO Libraries as the as new history and Latin American studies librarian. Woken will oversee development of collections and services to support the instructional and research needs of the Department of History and the interdisciplinary programs of Medieval Studies and Latin American Studies. He will also assist the library's Reference and Research Services Unit.
From June 25 to July 9, UO senior physics instructor Dean Livelybrooks and a team of national scientists on board the Atlantis research vessel will recover earthquake-monitoring equipment in the Pacific Ocean.
