AHA International opens applications for coming year

Applications for AHA International study abroad 2014-15 period are now open, and full information on the new summer 2014 Dublin program will be announced soon.

AHA International is an academic program of the University of Oregon and a study abroad organization dedicated to increasing intercultural competency and international awareness for university students throughout the United States.

The organization has made priority deadlines available for programs that start next summer. Students who have completed all AHA application materials before the priority deadlines will receive a $75 credit for summer sessions or a $100 credit for academic year programs. The credit will be applied to their program fee.

In other news, AHA International announced that the London spring quarter program will provide students the opportunity to fulfill several general education and upper division requirements. The Liberal Arts and Humanities course offerings during the 2014 spring term will include two courses taught by University of Oregon English professor Betsy Wheeler (“Graphic Novels and Cultural Theory” and “20th Century Literature, Post-1945”), “Writing 123,” “British Art of the Last Hundred Years,” “London Theater” and “Modern British History.”

The organization will no longer offer a London winter quarter program but will continue to offer programs during the fall and spring semesters, spring quarter and summer.

AHA International also announced that the semester program in Ghana has changed names from “Development Studies” to “International Development and Service Learning.” The program remains unchanged but now requires a minimum sophomore status and a 2.5 grade point average.

Also, advanced Spanish students studying Oviedo during the spring semester can enroll directly in some classes offered at the University of Oviedo, providing the opportunity to study alongside Spanish university students and receive upper-division Spanish language credit.
