Legendary architect and entrepreneur Arthur Gensler, founder of the largest design firm worldwide, will discuss his career and new book, “Art's Principles,” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, in Room 177, Lawrence Hall.

Gensler is widely credited with elevating the practice of interior design to professional standing. He is a fellow of the American Institute of Architects and the International Interior Design Association and a professional member of the Royal Institute of British Architects. His global firm, Gensler, began with a three-person staff in 1965.

He wrote “Art’s Principles” in 2015 to offer entrepreneurs the business insights he wishes someone had given him when he was starting out.  An early advocate of social networking, Gensler cultivated enduring relationships with a diverse range of clients, including Bank of America, Gap and Cushman & Wakefield.

A graduate of Cornell University's College of Architecture, Art and Planning, he has earned many honors including the Cornell Entrepreneur of the Year Award and Ernst & Young's Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2000, Gensler received the American Institute of Architects' "Firm of the Year" award.

His visit to UO is sponsored by the Department of Architecture, Interior Architecture Program, and the School of Architecture and Allied Arts Dean’s Office.
