Visitors to the Museum of Natural and Cultural History, beginning at 11 a.m. Friday, can immerse themselves in the cultures and ecosystems of the Arctic.
That's when the exhibition opens the "Highlights of the Jensen Arctic Collection," to the public. The collection was transferred to the MNCH from the Paul H. Jensen Arctic Museum at Western Oregon University (WOU) a year ago.
The exhibit features a variety of cultural materials, including a gutskin parka and baleen baskets from Alaska, boots from across the Arctic and a selection of masks. Taxidermy specimens will provide a close-up view of Arctic animals such as snowy owls, arctic foxes, a wolf and a young Kodiak bear.
