Bike Month, though looking slightly different this year, is underway with safe and socially distant bike activities all over Lane County.
WeBikeLane.org has a full lineup of socially distanced rides, online talks and classes, bike discounts at local businesses, and prizes for all ages and riding abilities. Bike Month focuses on celebrating the benefits of biking and works to make biking accessible to everyone, regardless of age or skill level.
Organizations such as the Eugene transportation planning office, Greater Eugene Area Riders, Safe Routes to School, LiveMove, 360 Cycles and more have collaborated with WeBikeLane.org to host various bike-related events and rides throughout May.
Bike Month was established nationally in 1956, but Eugene began organizing events in recognition of Bike Month in 2014. WeBikeLane.org started promoting Bike Month events in 2016.
May 21 is Bike to Work Day. For those working from home, WeBikeLane.org encourages people to ride to the office and back to decrease stress levels and improve health.
Upcoming events include bike rides, tune-up lessons, panel discussions, a brewery tour, learn to ride a bike and more.
The Bike Program through the UO Outdoor Program has several rides scheduled this month, along with other resources like the bike workspace and bike rentals.
