During an afternoon meeting Wednesday, Nov. 5, the Board of Trustees of the University of Oregon adopted the final draft of the UO mission statement as approved by the Academic and Student Affairs Committee earlier in the week.
Board Chair Chuck Lillis opened the meeting by thanking the many people who worked through the long process and praising the efforts of everyone who had a role in the “highly collaborative process.”
After calling for discussion and hearing none, trustees unanimously approved the mission statement in a roll-call vote, closing the campus portion of the process.
Mary Wilcox, trustee and chair of the Academic and Student Affairs Committee, said the “heroic work by everyone involved, including that of the campus community, reflects what this university is all about.”
The adopted mission statement will now be submitted to the state Higher Education Coordination Council for review.
