The Academic and Student Affairs Committee (ASAC) of the Board of Trustees of the University of Oregon will meet on Monday, Nov. 3, to consider a revised and updated UO mission statement. If the ASAC approves the statement, the full Board of Trustees will meet on Wednesday afternoon to consider its final adoption and approval.
The ASAC meeting on Nov. 3 will be at 1:00 p.m. in room 402 of the Ford Alumni Center. The full Board meeting is scheduled for Nov. 5 at 2:30 p.m. in room 403 of the Ford Alumni Center. The meetings are open to the public.
The university began the process of revising its mission statement in April. The process included several months of campus input in the forms of in-person forums and online comments. During the September meeting the board’s Academic and Student Affairs Committee asked Bronet to further refine the draft before returning to the committee for approval and submission to the full board. The refined draft was shared with campus on the provost website on Oct. 10. The provost took input on the new draft until Oct. 31.
“The additional opportunity for feedback allows for further input from student groups and any others who may not have weighed in previously,” Bronet said. “A mission statement should reflect the core of all that brings us together as a university and we want to ensure that the language resonates across our community.”
Once the UO Board of Trustees approved the final mission statement, it will go to the Higher Education Coordination Council for final approval.
“The mission statement very intentionally states our values, which drive how we pursue excellence and access in research, teaching and critical citizenship,” Bronet said.
