Classroom tech trainings offered in September and October

Anyone preparing to teach this fall at the University of Oregon can learn about classroom technology at a series of trainings.

The classroom tech support team in Information Services will hold three sessions for UO instructors:

  • Sept. 26: Small-to-medium room, 253 Straub.
  • Sept. 27: Large room, 177 Lawrence.
  • Oct. 4: Drop-in session, 253 Straub.

Both September sessions will run 2-3:30 p.m. Each will focus on technology relevant to the room size, ranging from Crestron control systems to microphones, assistive listening devices and document cameras. The first 45 minutes will feature an overview and demonstration of audiovisual equipment, followed by time for questions.

The October drop-in session, scheduled for 3-5 p.m., offers a chance to ask questions or get troubleshooting tips after the first week of classes. People can also bring their own equipment and meet with a classroom technician one-on-one.

"Whether you want an overview of the basics or have specific questions about your setup, we are here to help," said Melodie Moore, manager of audio visual services in Information Services.

The trainings are open to anyone who teaches or supports teaching in classrooms scheduled by the Office of the Registrar, also known as general-pool and joint-controlled classrooms. Faculty and staff members, graduate employees and student employees are welcome.

Registration is encouraged. The registration form will remain open for each session until it begins. Registrants will receive slides by email afterward.

The trainings offer faculty and staff dedicated time with tech experts during the busy time around the start of fall term, when the technicians might otherwise be occupied.

That said, instructors can also request one-on-one appointments to go over technology in specific rooms.

"Our goal is to ensure everyone who uses these spaces has a positive experience," Moore said. "We look forward to helping everyone start the fall term smoothly."
