East Los Angeles Chicano alternative rock band Quetzal and Martha Gonzalez will be on campus in late February to take part in several events over two days.

The group will perform a public concert at Beall Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, the centerpiece event of the World Music Series offerings from the School of Music and Dance. The appearance is part of the EMU’s theBEseries of events.

Quetzal emerged from the ashes of the 1992 Los Angeles riots as a collective of East Side musicians committed to respectfully continuing the legacy of more than 70 years of Chicano rock. The Grammy-winning ensemble has created a path that has earned them the title of “one of Los Angeles’ most important bands” in The Los Angeles Times.

Quetzal’s fifth album, "Imaginaries,” released by Smithsonian Folkways, received the Grammy Award in 2013 for Best Latin Rock, Urban, or Alternative Album.
