The UO community is invited to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the Gerlinger Lounge on Tuesday, Oct. 26, with tours and remarks by Ellen Herman, professor of history.

The space is one of the most intact historic interiors on campus, including original fabric, Georgian columns and pilasters, and a shield and scroll motif. A renovation in 2016 uncovered additional details, such as a glaze finish on the ceiling trim, stone painted in buttermilk to look like aged plaster and the consistency of furniture arrangement over the years.

The event will start at 2:30 p.m. with remarks at 3 p.m. from Herman. Information about historic preservation and other details of Gerlinger Hall will be displayed in the lounge, sun porch and Woodruff Gym for self-guided tours from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.

A limited number of spots are available for the guided “Women in the History of the Campus Built Environment Tour,” from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Advance registration is required.

Gerlinger Hall was originally called the Women’s Memorial Hall and later renamed for Irene Gerlinger, the first female regent and fundraiser for the UO. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
