Construction on the Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact continues this week, with excavation underway and work on the millrace on the horizon.
As crews dig into the site, environmental remediation will begin with removal of petroleum-contaminated soils, likely from the many gas stations once on the property.
As this work progresses, odors may be noticeable. Consultants are carefully monitoring off-gassing and following established protocols.
Later this summer, crews will divert the millrace between Riverfront Parkway and Onyx Street to begin improvement projects, which are slated for completion next year. While the diversion system is put in place, water levels in the other portions of the millrace will be lower. Once the diversion system is completed, flows will return to normal both east and west of the site. Normal flows are scheduled to be restored to the diverted section late in summer 2019, after improvements have been completed.
Beginning this week, additional large trucks will be coming and going from the site.
A construction map highlights projects and potential traffic effects on campus and the surrounding area. Construction and traffic updates are posted on the Knight Campus website, while progress on the site can be viewed in real time via a web cam.
