Forum set to hear comments on tuition recommendations

The University of Oregon community is invited to weigh in on proposed tuition and fee rates for the incoming student cohort at a public meeting Feb. 19.

President Karl Scholz will host a forum on tuition and fee rates from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Crater Lake Room of the Erb Memorial Union. Public comments can be provided at the forum or through an online survey.

The president will consider public comments and recommendations of the UO Tuition and Fee Advisory Board before developing his recommendations for tuition and fees to the board of trustees at its March meeting.

In reviewing tuition and fee rates, the advisory board — made up of students, staff and faculty members — held ten public meetings and one public forum, cohosted with the Associated Students of the University of Oregon, during fall and winter terms. Recommendations were sent to Scholz on Feb. 13.

University community members are also invited to send written feedback on the tuition recommendations. Input can be submitted through the online survey form until 8 a.m., Monday, Feb. 23.

The board is scheduled to vote on the president’s recommendations March 16-17.

Once the tuition and mandatory fees have been approved, they will be locked for the incoming class of undergraduate students for five years. The Oregon Guarantee, adopted in 2020, ensures each incoming class of first-year and transfer students pay the same tuition and administratively controlled mandatory fee rates for the next five years. Tuition rates and administratively controlled mandatory fees for all returning undergraduate students are already set.

All current undergraduate students are part of the guaranteed tuition program and will see no increase in tuition rates or administratively controlled mandatory fees next year.
