The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art continues "The Hidden Histories of Art" series with Lynn Stephen's lecture on "Chocolate in the Americas" at noon Friday, June 3.
Stephen — Distinguished Professor of Arts and Sciences, professor of anthropology and co-director of the Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies — will explore the history of chocolate in the Americas.
Stephen's work centers on the effects of globalization, migration, nationalism and the politics of culture on indigenous communities in the Americas. Her work, which engages political-economy, ethnohistory and ethnography, has provided a hemispheric lens on major challenges faced by indigenous peoples.
"The Hidden Histories of Art" is a lunchtime series dedicated to connecting the research of UO faculty members to works of art on view at the museum.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens. Admission is free for those 18 and under, museum members, college students with ID, and UO faculty, staff and students. For information, contact the museum at 541-346-3027.
