The UO athletics department expects to score big Friday, regardless of what happens on the football field.
Besides facing rival Oregon State University in the 119th Civil War game, the Ducks are going for the first-ever green certification for a football game — college or professional — from the Council for Responsible Sport. That means the university has put as much effort into reducing the environmental effects of the game as it has making sure fans have a good time.
The university works with the city of Eugene and other partners to reduce trash, boost recycling, avoid food waste, cut emissions and take other steps to make sure the game is as green as the Duck’s shirt. It’s the same kind of effort that TrackTown USA puts into its major track championships, which have already earned council certification.
