If you have a story that you want to tell but don’t know how to begin, a free three-hour workshop might be the start you need — and could even land you center stage.

Now in its third year and presented by the Office of the Dean of Students, the Intertwined storytelling workshop will be held Saturday, March 2, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is open to all University of Oregon students and faculty and staff members. Lunch will be provided.

While not required, attendees also have the option of applying to participate in the Intertwined storytelling performances May 9 and 10.

Each year’s performance has a different theme, suggested by past audiences, participants and organizers. This year will focus on choices.

“Everyone makes choices, but the choices faced by one person can be vastly different from another’s,” said Abigail Leeder, director of experiential education and prevention initiatives. “We hope to elicit stories that cover a wide range of the human experience.”

Participants will explore story structure, reflect on their own experiences and begin crafting potential stories.

Sharing stories can make some people feel vulnerable, Leeder said. To help alleviate this, the workshop activities will include participants sharing personal experiences, to become more comfortable being witnessed by a group.

Preregistration is required by Wednesday, Feb. 27, using the signup form on the Dean of Students website.
