The University of Oregon School of Law recently named Lauren Charles to be assistant director of Admissions. She began her new position June 17.

Charles is a 2011 graduate of the law school. She earned her undergraduate degree in public health from Johns Hopkins University and received her master's degree in historic preservation from Pratt Institute in New York.

"I'm thrilled to be joining the Admissions team at Oregon law," Charles said. "I valued working with the Admissions staff as a student and I look forward to contributing to the learning environment of the School of Law."

Charles brings an intimate knowledge of the law school and its community, allowing her to communicate the benefits of an Oregon law education to prospective students, said professor Susan Gary, chair of the search committee.

"We were fortunate that the pool had many strong candidates,” Gary said. “Lauren was selected because of her unique skill set and direct understanding of the School of Law, both as a student and as a former admissions office student staff member."

Charles, a Louisiana native, has interned with both the New York Landmarks Conservancy and the National Trust for Historic Preservation in Washington, D.C. She also worked with The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission.

While at the law school, Charles was an active leader in the school community, serving as minority outreach assistant for the Admissions office and as 2010 PIELC co-director.

Charles has served as a judicial clerk for Judge Cynthia Carlson of Lane County Circuit Court. She is a member of the Oregon State Bar and most recently practiced with the Clutch Group in Washington, D.C.
