Award-winning photographer Greg Giesy will bring his exhibit “Connecting with Nature” to the second-floor gallery at the University of Oregon School of Law for a three-month showing.
A reception with the artist will be held Thursday, Sept. 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the gallery in the Knight Law Center. The exhibit is open weekdays through Dec. 18 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
With most photos taken in the Eugene area, and many taken within city limits, Giesy said he hopes the photos “motivate everyone to look at the beauty around them.”
Giesy has been a photographer for more than 40 years and has focused his work on the details in nature, including urban settings. A resident of the Eugene area since 1954, he has worked toward the coexistence of nature and the community as both photographer and volunteer, including planting hundreds of trees in the area.
“Greg creates close-up, telephoto-lens photographs that amaze and delight,” said law professor Dom Vetri, who has brought 32 art shows to the School of Law over the course of 18 years. “Enjoy ‘Connections with Nature’ with your friends and family.”
The exhibit is the latest one-man show Giesy has held in the area, with others at O’Brien Photo Gallery, Wild Birds Unlimited and the Oregon Research Institute.
Giesy has won six awards in the last four years from Nature Photographers of the Pacific Northwest and earned a first place in photography at the Springfield Mayor’s Art Show in 2016. He also was the photographer for the city of Eugene during the Neighborhood USA Conference held in 2014.
