Licensed drivers in Oregon who wish to purchase the new University of Oregon license plate can now go to uoalumni.com/plate and buy a voucher for themselves or as a gift for someone else.
Once 3,000 vouchers are sold, the plates will go into production. Proceeds from the new license plate support University of Oregon Alumni Association presidential scholarships, the UOAA Board of Directors scholarship and scholarships funded by the UOAA’s chapters.
That means the license plates don’t just look distinctive and stylish; — they also help talented young students attend the UO. Custom plate options are available, and Ducks who currently own custom plates can transfer their current six-character configuration onto a new plate.
The image, showing the Duck at the center of green ripples spreading outward, represents the effect Ducks have on the world around them. The plates were designed by design industry icon Tinker Hatfield, a 1977 UO architecture graduate and Nike’s vice president for design and special projects. Hatfield, a former pole vaulter at the UO, is responsible for Nike’s Air Jordan line and was also on the team that produced the UO’s iconic “O.”
