All UO students and employees now have free access to a suite of Microsoft office software through a new license with the university’s information services office.
With the license, the UO now has universal access to the Office 365 suite, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, as well as other programs depending on the computer operating system. Also, the license provides unlimited online storage through OneDrive.
The software can be installed on both university-owned and personal desktop and laptop computers and iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. Up to 15 devices can be connected, including five laptop or desktop computers, five tablets and five smartphones.
The new access became live May 4.
In the past, the university had a software license paid for by participating departments, schools and colleges that covered only those units. The cost of a license covering the entire campus was not much higher, and information services opted to expand coverage this year.
