The university has named Linda Favero the new assistant dean of students and career services for UO Portland, which welcomed almost 400 students this fall and has seen a growing demand for student life services and support.

“As the student population in Portland continues to grow and become more diverse, it created a critical need for an increased and localized student life presence,” said Jane Gordon, vice provost for Portland. “In this new role, Linda will work to support a healthy and connected student community and address critical issues around health, safety, housing, transportation, conduct, and equity and inclusion.”

Gordon said Favero will be the go-to person for students and work with them on co-curricular programs and training. In addition, she will serve as a deputy coordinator for Title IX and her office will provide a safe space for students, faculty and staff to report incidents of discrimination or bias.

Favero will spend half her time providing student services and the other on career services, specifically for graduate students in Portland and recent UO graduates looking for employment in the region. She has been with the university for more than eight years as the program director of Alumni Career Services in Portland while providing limited student support.

Work has already started to form a Portland student council, expand the Portland student life website with information and resources specific to Portland and to send a monthly Around the O email to Portland students to connect them with more services, opportunities and events.

“I look forward to this expanded role to further enhance the Portland student experience by building a safe and welcoming community and ensuring all students have the resources they need to be successful with their academic pursuits and beyond,” Favero said.
