New UO Libraries website offers improvements for users

Past users of the UO Libraries’ website will notice many new improvements in the design and functionality of the homepage the next time they visit it at library.uoregon.edu.

The changes, based on information gleaned from user testing with UO students and faculty, will make it easier to access and use numerous resources and services available from the UO Libraries.

Chief among the improvements are:

  • Individualized audience tabs. One for each of four main website user groups: UO undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and staff and the general public. The tabs include links to the most frequently used library resources and services for each group.
  • Current library hours on the homepage. Quickly find out when your library is open.
  • Access to frequently used library tools on every page. My Library Accounts, Rooms and Study Spaces, Maps, About, Ask a Librarian and the Chat feature are readily available.
  • Integrated discovery tools. A stacked array of choices for the type and format of materials users may wish to search.
  • New “Featured” section. How-to’s and tips for using library resources and services, customized to each user group’s needs.
  • Library Events. Users can whet their appetites for learning. Scan the schedule of upcoming library lectures, readings, symposiums, workshops and other events. Read more about them and make plans to attend.
  • Library Announcements. Learn about new library resources, collections, programs and services. Get other useful information, too, on facility improvements, deadlines for library award programs and more.
