Nominations sought for annual Financial Stewardship Institute

Nominations are open for this year’s Financial Stewardship Institute, a series of workshops to help UO employees with significant budget and finance responsibilities.

The professional development course is designed for those involved in oversight, management or leadership of budget issues in their departments. The 44-hour program is offered annually, and 28 spots are available this year.

Department heads, deans and directors are encouraged to nominate employees who qualify for the institute, and interested employees also are welcome to nominate themselves. Officers of administration, research and instruction and classified staff are eligible for nomination.

The nomination form can be found here.

The Design Team, the decision-making body of the institute, includes Jamie Moffitt, vice president for finance and administration; Kelly Wolf, assistant vice president of business affairs and controller; Stuart Laing, director of budget operations; and Pam Farmer, director of UO organizational development and training. The Design Team selected institute topics by identifying the financial key practices of financial stewards, Farmer said.

The course is taught in 11 four-hour sessions on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month beginning Oct. 7 and ending April 28.

The institute focuses on the complex financial issues of higher education and explores topics such as accounting, human resources and payroll, budget planning and financial reporting and analysis. Institute participants will have the opportunity to network with other UO colleagues and will have the chance to improve risk management and strategic thinking skills.

A schedule and summary of the sessions are listed on the Organizational Development and Training website. Nominations will be accepted through Fri., Sept. 26, and nominees will receive registration notifications the week of Sept. 29 to Oct. 3.
