Officer of administration employment policies near completion

The University of Oregon’s effort to establish a full set of employment policies for officers of administration is in the home stretch.

Human Resources submitted the suite of officers of administration employment policies to the university’s Policy Advisory Council in early February. The policies are currently open for review and comment as part of the council’s process.

Following the completion of the review, the policies will go to President Michael H. Schill for approval.

Historically, OAs have been governed by faculty policies and practices, which have not always aligned well with OA positions. HR began a process in 2015 to create clear, consistent employment policies covering issues such as performance management, separations, time off and the grievance process.

Human Resources presented the suite of policies last September to OAs and campus, and requested feedback through an online survey and discussion sessions. A review of the comment period conducted by HR is available on the OA Policy Development webpage.

“This is the culmination of a highly collaborative project, which could not have happened without the active support and participation of OAs,” said Nancy Resnick, chief human resources officer. “The feedback we’ve received at every stage has been constructive and informed the process. The policies have been well-received with strong support from OAs.”

According to the HR website, implementation plans for the policies will be finalized following presidential approval of the policies. Human Resources plans to communicate directly with OAs about policy implementation.

HR will also work directly with partners and supervisors to educate and inform them about policies and procedures. Visit the HR website for updates on the implementation of OA policies.
