With sunny weather on the horizon for the foreseeable future, it is easy to forget that fall benefits enrollment is right around the corner. Those more focused on sunscreen than their annual dental exam need not worry as the university benefits staff is reviewing changes to make sure everyone is informed and ready to evaluate plans and make educated healthcare choices.
Meetings throughout the October open enrollment period will provide benefits-eligible employees the opportunity to learn firsthand what options are available and how those options may affect coverage selections. In the meantime, eligible employees can take a few simple steps now to ensure a smooth open enrollment.
- Employees should ensure that their information is correct in the PEBB system. Log in to verify the information is correct or to change an email or contact address.
- Important updates are distributed directly from PEBB and employees without updated contact information could miss timely notifications. Review current healthcare coverage from this year; was it appropriate for both your health and financial needs? Take note of coverage questions that arose for ease in comparing the new options in October.
- There will be new medical plans for 2015. Opt in to email distribution lists to receive information directly from new and existing plans. Some plans will be reaching out to members directly with surveys and focus groups.
- Review individual Health Engagement Model (HEM) goals made to increase overall health last year, and peruse the resources and support services available to assist employees with those goals.
“Benefit options can seem daunting, but with preparation, attendance at a benefits meeting and the support of the university’s trained and welcoming staff, employees will be able to select the appropriate coverage to meet their needs,” said Cindi Peterson, benefits coordinator for Human Resources.
Notification of informational meeting dates and times will be released in the coming weeks. All benefits eligible faculty and staff are encouraged to attend.
