New faculty and administrative officers at the University of Oregon are invited to get the lay of the land during an orientation Sept. 25-26.
The Orientation for New Faculty and Officers of Administration provides a transition into the UO community for new tenure-track faculty, tenured faculty, non-tenure-track faculty and officers of administration.
The orientation includes information about the university and campus resources, brief presentations and handouts provided by Academic Affairs. A resource guide includes contact and general information for each office represented at the event.
The Sept. 25 meeting runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Gerlinger Lounge. It covers university structure and function, academic overview and priorities, building community and supporting diversity, students and student services, emergency response, sustainability and breakout sessions.
The Sept. 26 meeting (same time and place) covers research and teaching support, technology, personal and professional support and more.
Sessions are attended by 60 to 70 people, and 150 usually attend a 5 p.m. barbecue Sept. 26 on Pioneer Mother Lawn that is open to family and guests, as well.
