Michael Redding, vice president of university relations at the University of Oregon, announced today (March 7) that he has accepted a position at the University of Illinois, Chicago. He will begin his new job April 30.
Redding has served as a senior UO administrator in a variety of roles since 2000. He has been a member of the president's cabinet since 2004 and served as vice president for university advancement before taking on his current role in 2010.
"It has been a true honor and privilege to work at the University of Oregon for the last 13 years and I have had the good fortune of making many friends and acquaintances among the faculty, staff, alumnae and friends in the UO community," Redding said in an e-mail to colleagues. "The University of Oregon is a special place and while my family and I are excited about moving to Chicago, we will miss you all and we will remain Ducks forever."
Redding will serve as executive associate chancellor for external affairs and government relations at UIC. He will be responsible for relationships with external constituents – overseeing community relations, international affairs and public affairs and marketing. He will coordinate those functions with development, alumni affairs and access and equity.
"Michael has served the University of Oregon with distinction over the past 13 years in a variety of roles focused on the UO's external constituents, culminating in his current role as vice president for university relations," UO President Michael Gottfredson said today. "Please join us in congratulating Michael on his appointment, and wishing him success as he takes on new challenges at UIC. We will plan a time this spring to acknowledge and celebrate all he has done to advance the UO."
As the UO vice president for university relations, Redding heads a variety of units – strategic communications; marketing and advertising; media relations; digital communications; design and editing services; state, federal and community relations; alumni relations; Oregon Quarterly, the university's magazine; Portland advancement; university radio station KWAX; and the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.
