Say you will: Homecoming party includes Otis Day & the Knights

Nothing says UO Homecoming like a performance by the Otis Day and the Knights.

The band, known for its legendary cover of “Shout!” in the movie “Animal House,” will perform at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the EMU ballroom. The show follows the traditional homecoming parade and is on a long list of activities welcoming families, alumni and community members to campus to celebrate the university.

Lectures, exhibits, musical performances, movie screenings and athletic events will continue throughout the week, before numerous academic classes are opened to parent and alumni visitors on Friday. Among the choices: The Department of Romance Languages will hold cooking demonstrations in the Global Scholars Hall kitchen at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday.

The homecoming parade — “Where Spirit Meets Tradition” — will start at 4 p.m. Friday, launching at Agate Street, before traveling down 13th Street to the EMU.

The first-ever EMU House Party will follow the parade with music, games, tournaments, a photo booth, a haunted campus tour, food and drinks.

Saturday events include a 5 p.m. tailgate hosted by UO Alumni Association and the Parent and Family Program. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. for the football game against the California Golden Bears. A concert by Oregon Mozart Players, featuring flutist Elizabeth Rowe, begins at 7:30 p.m. in Beall Concert Hall.

On Sunday, the annual Run with the Duck race starts at 10 a.m. in Alton Baker Park. The Kids Fun Duck Run begins at 9:30 a.m.
