The Springfield High School Mariachi del Sol band, art activities and musical instrument making are a few of the events scheduled for the Dia de la Familia at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.

The free, family-friendly event takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13. This Dia de la Familia, or family day, coincides with the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Among the events: Artist Sam Becerra will help kids create pre-Columbian pendants; English and Spanish museum tours will be offered; the Eugene Public Library will host story time in Spanish and English; “El Tigre y El Padre” will be performed by the Dragon Puppet Theatre; and ex-voto paintings and holiday card printmaking will be held.

The event is funded through grants from the Oregon Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.
