The Science Program to Inspire Creativity and Excellence (SPICE) and UO STEM CORE will hold its 3rd annual Science Open House Sept. 25 from 6:30p.m. to 8:30 p.m. It will take place on the University of Oregon campus, in Willamette Hall.
The event has drawn more than 400 people in past years. It is designed to connect the Eugene community with science outreach programs on campus and in the community. The event is free and open to the public.
More than 15 groups at 20 science tables will provide activities aimed at children of all ages. Activities include the Flubber factory, science jewelry-making, the egg drop, lazer maze and the science pentathlon.
Professor Doctor Mildred Slugwak Dresselhaus, Eugene’s SLUG Queen, will be in attendance as well.
The Oregon Center for Optics formed SPICE in 2008. The program’s primary aim is to foster an environment in which girls can thrive in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The program also hosts three summer camps, which are open to boys, among other events.
