Six University of Oregon students have received Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships for fall and year-long study abroad, earning them up to $5,000 to help cover the cost of studying, researching or interning in another country.

The six UO recipients are among a total of 1,100 American undergraduate students across the nation selected to receive the prestigious scholarship.  The program aims to diversify the students who study abroad and the countries and regions where they go.

Out of 332 colleges and universities across the United States, the UO now ranks 11th nationally in the number of Gilman recipients. The university is tied with several other institutions, including Arizona State University, George Washington University and the University of Washington, among others.

“Our continued recognition as a top producer of Gilman Scholars is also a validation of our efforts to champion the internationalization of the University of Oregon,” said Dennis Galvan, vice provost for international affairs. “Our office remains committed to advancing the UO as a leader in global education and ensuring student access to enriching study abroad experiences.”

Christine Senavsky: Austria; music and English
Eden Powell: Russia; art
Evelyn Sagastume: South Korea; Japanese and Asian studies
Jacob Triplett: Japan; political science
Amina Dureti: South Africa; family and human services
Angeles Phamuong: South Korea; pre-journalism
