A UO study on ice age Oregon by geology professor Josh Roering caught the attention of The New York Times, which recently featured the research in the Observatory column in its science section.
The study found that much of what is now lush forest in Oregon’s Coast Range was more like frosty meadows during the last ice age, 26,000 to 13,000 years ago. Indeed, much of the United States that was not covered by ice probably looked the same, similar to southeastern Alaska today.
