On Tuesday, Nov. 22, a U.S. District Court judge from Texas issued a preliminary injunction temporarily blocking the U.S. Department of Labor’s overtime rule, which was scheduled to go into effect on Dec. 1. Chief Human Resources Officer Nancy Resnick issued the following message to campus regarding the action:
Dear Colleagues,
The University of Oregon, like many other government entities and businesses across the country, has been preparing to comply with new federal regulations related to the minimum salary threshold that would exempt certain employees from overtime regulations. A number of changes were to be implemented on Dec. 1. Yesterday, however, a federal district court in Texas issued a preliminary injunction against those federal regulations.
We will await further guidance from the courts before we decide whether to make the planned changes to compensation and overtime practices at the university.
We recognize that this is an important issue and has real implications related to compensation for some university employees. We will contact affected employees, as well as their managers and supervisors, as soon as we have more information.
