Two campus-based members of the new Board of Trustees of the University of Oregon joined the Officers of Administration (OA) Council at a recent meeting to describe their roles on the Board and answer questions about the university’s new independent governing body.
Susan Gary, the board’s faculty representative and professor of law, told the group that she wants to hear questions and concerns from campus and encouraged everyone to attend the board’s meetings. Gary said that while the board members have differing experiences and relationships to the university, they are eager to do hard work as a board.
Kurt Willcox, the non-faculty staff representative and research analyst with intoCareers, said the board is aware of the funding and space concerns on campus and aims to find funding for strategic investments to the academic mission of the university.
The group also discussed the process for selecting board members, financial transparency at UO and other institutions, and the state of OA employment policies on campus.
The OA Council will host Willcox and Gary again for an open meeting in early fall. The Board of Trustees meeting schedule, is available online.
