Gone are the days of sitting down awkwardly in front of a camera, forcing an uncomfortable smile for a school photo: The University of Oregon Card Office is accepting selfie submissions for Duck IDs.
What they won’t accept: Angled shots, blurry photos, cropped heads, costumes, outdated photos, pictures with pets, landscape backgrounds and — somewhat ironically for a university with such a mascot — “duck faces.”

The new option for UO students follows an example set by other schools around the country that have implemented the online submission option to great effect, said Tamarra White, guest services manager at the UO Card Office.
The new selfie option not only allows students to choose the photo that will grace their ID for the years that they spend at the university, but it also means no long lines at IntroDUCKtion waiting to get your photo taken.
“We hope it will reduce the bottle neck at the card office,” White said. “It frees staff during IntroDUCKtion and allows them to be more interactive with parents and students when they have questions.”
In addition to the traditional means of school photo-taking during IntroDUCKtion, a “selfie station” will be set up at orientation this summer, where students can snap their selfie in a space that meets all the requirements and upload it for next-day ID pick up.
Perhaps the DMV should take note.
