Stefan Cristobal, a 2014 UO graduate, recently was selected as the sole winner of the 2014 Pensole World Sneaker Championship for his shoe design in the month-long competition.
His achievement was announced in The Oregonian on Aug. 22 and comes one year after his runner-up finish in 2013. Cristobal earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in in industrial and product design.
Cristobal’s design was part of a competition among 30 participants at the Pensole Footwear Design Academy in Portland. As the design phase of the competition wound down, competitors presented their designs to a panel of judges with the event broadcast live on the YouTube channel of sneaker blog Nice Kicks.
Lindsey Johnson, another UO student, partnered with Cristobal as the shoe’s color and material designer. She earned the World Sneaker Color and Material Championship Award for her work on the project.
Between Aug. 16 and 19 thousands of people from all over the world voted on the eight designs featured on the Sports Illustrated website.
Cristobal and Johnson’s shoe is scheduled to be produced by footwear company Android Homme in 2015.
