Seating will limited, but the public is being invited to experience "The Fly Room," a movie based on the true story of a little girl who enters her dad's laboratory and steps into the world of modern genetics.

The event — from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26, at Bijou Art Cinemas, 492 East 13th Ave., in Eugene — is free to attend but those interested need to send an email to claim one of the 100 tickets being made available.

Beginning at 7 p.m., attendees can view demonstrations of behavior experiments using fruit flies led by Mubarak H. Syed, a postdoctoral fellow in the neuroscience lab of UO biologist Chris Doe, and biology graduate student Matthew Q. Clark. The event is part of a science public outreach effort, which is carried out both locally and internationally and led by Syed and Clark.

Also on hand for meeting with the public and answering questions will be the movie's director Alexis Gambis, a French-Venezuelen scientist, filmmaker and founder of Imagine Science Films, a non-profit organization. He also teaches a course on how film and neuroscience intersect at New York University-Abu Dhabi.

The Doe lab, UO Department of Biology and Applied Scientific Instrumentation of Eugene are the primary sponsors of the event.
