Virginia Woolf’s final work adapted for UO stage

The UO Department of Theatre Arts is delving into the world of English history this summer with a play adapted from Virginia Woolf’s final novel, “Between the Acts.”

The production, adapted and directed by John Schmor, will be held at the Hope Theatre in the Miller Theatre Complex on July 25, 26, 31 and Aug. 1 and 2. Shows start at 8 p.m.

“Between the Acts” encompasses British history from the Elizabethan Age to present-day England. Told through a small English village’s presentation of their annual historic pageant, the performance offers an insight into the intriguing relationships between villagers and families.

Schmor said he’s excited to finally give life to Woolf’s timeless tale on the local stage. He has been eager to produce the play since he read the novel years ago, and his adaptation of the play is a tribute to Woolf’s writing style.

“It's intentionally spare staging emphasizing the actors and Virginia Woolf's wonderful way with words,” he said. “All the way, it’s been inspiring to work within Woolf's world.”

More information on the event can be found on the play’s website.
