Tickets are now available for the Wings: UO Presidential Speakers Series event Friday, June 1, in Portland.
University of Oregon President Michael H. Schill will welcome guests into his Portland “living room” at the White Stag Block with an intimate evening of curated talks. Guests will enjoy live music, appetizers and a hosted bar.
Schill will provide a short update on initiatives and priorities for the UO. David Rae, co-founder and president of 503 Media & Events will host the talks. The program will feature:
- Tasia Smith, assistant professor of counseling psychology and part of the UO Health Promotion and Obesity Prevention Initiative. Her research looks at ways to reduce and prevent obesity in underserved populations such as rural communities.
- Nico Larco, associate professor of architecture and Urbanism Next leader. His research focuses on how emerging technology will impact cities and their residents.
- Pius Cheung, associate professor of percussion and chair of the percussion area at the UO School of Music and Dance. He is a percussionist, composer and educator. He explores 21st century cross-culturalism through percussion
- Marcus Harvey, Portland Gear founder and 2012 UO graduate in digital arts and business. He has turned a love for product and community into a lifestyle apparel brand celebrated around the region by using events, local collaborations, and innovative marketing campaigns.
The event is at UO Portland, 70 NW Couch St. The cocktail reception starts at 5:30 p.m. and the program begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $50.
The first Wings event in January featured talks by Schill, UO faculty members Donna Davis, Melissa Baese-Berk, Richard Taylor and Wonkak Kim, and UO graduate student Kodi Whitfield. Speaker videos are available online.
