Winter weather doesn't often affect operations at the University of Oregon, but it does happen: A heavy blanket of wet snow in March 2012 and last month's snow storm and the Arctic blast that followed are recent cases in point.
Individual members of the campus community may struggle in even less-severe winter storms, but the UO's Emergency Management & Continuity office aims to reduce those impacts by offering "Winter Weather Emergency Preparedness" in a one-hour session at noon on Thursday, Jan. 23.
The session in Gerlinger Lounge – taught by staff from UO Emergency Management and the American Red Cross – will cover steps that can be taken both at home and at work to more successfully deal with hazardous winter weather ranging from snow and ice to freezing fog. It will include information on emergency supply kits, weatherizing homes and safe winter driving.
The session is being offered through the UO's Organizational Development and Training office. It is free and open to all members of the UO community.
Participants are asked to register online.
