The University of Oregon is calling young journalists. UO is offering over 500 spots for Fall Press Day, where middle school and high school journalists across the state can come to UO and hone their work.
The 29th annual Fall Press Day will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 12. The UO School of Journalism and Communication will be working alongside The Northwest Scholastic Press Association to bring young journalists to campus for the daylong event.
Those participating in the event will get the chance to improve their writing skills, tour Allen Hall, get introduced to the campus and meet professors and professional journalists working in Oregon.
The conference will include workshops that will go over subjects ranging from interviewing tips, journalism and the First Amendment, multimedia skills and more. The conference will also have keynote speakers.
“What we want students to take away from this experience is a bit of what it’s like to be a journalist and showcase their journalism skills,” said Karla Kennedy, executive director of the Northwest Scholastic Press Association.
The conference will be held in the Erb Memorial Union Ballroom. Registration for the event will begin at 7:30 a.m. The conference will officially start at 8 a.m. and last until 3 p.m. Registration for the conference will remain open until the day of the event.
